If you have any interest in learning about inkjet papers, and most of us should, this is a class you have to catch. One of the classes offered at Freestyle here in LA and at various times around the country. The focus of this seminar is to give photographers the knowledge of a wide variety of inkjet papers that are available. "We can truly have a personal bond and relationship with inkjet papers the same way we had with traditional darkroom papers" says Eric. After attending two of these classes, I'm not sure I'll look at printing the same.
With your first step into the classroom you're greeted with a big smile from Eric and then an invitation. Go ahead...grab the paper on the walls...take a feel. I felt a little like a paper pervert but Eric encourages you to take a "taste" by feeling and looking closely. Each image on the surrounding wall is labeled and a product of Eric's labor. Personally I've never had the chance to sample so many papers in one place. My brain was overloaded.
Then it's off to a few hours of entertaining mental stimulation. Usually you can find somebody nodding off in these classes but somehow Eric kept "paper" interesting. From color space to profiles and onto actual printing the information is nonstop. Eric works closely with Paul (red vest) in demonstrating just how important profiles can be. Paul's another wealth of information worth tapping into with regards to color management and a master with custom profiles.
